Introduction

A few words concerning this blog and myself.  Obviously I am not going to be as well versed in many regions of the United States.  For this reason, I have used many sources which are listed at the bottom of each blog.  I was born in South Carolina, raised in North Carolina, and went to highschool and college in Virginia.  I am currently a college student at the University of Mary Washington in the town of Fredericksburg, Virginia.  My major is History.  Both of my parents are from Southern Virginia.  My family has been in Virginia for roughly 400 years continuously with some family history in North Carolina as well.  This being the case, I have grown up with pig pickins' and oyster roasts, grits, biscuits slathered with butter and jam, smithfield ham, TONS of jams, jellies, preserves, and pickles homemade and distributed by my many great-aunts who reside near the Blue Ridge, poke sallet, flatfooting (clogging) at weddings, moonshine at oyster roasts (and weddings), my grandfather's strong tidewater accent, stories of old mountain healers, and too many other things to mention at this point in time.  

 I make these blogs with the hope that non-Americans will see that, although short in relation to other nations, we are a nation with history and have developed our own unique and distinctly regional food ways.  I also make these blogs hoping to remind Americans to hold onto their culture, which is increasingly difficult in this day in age with canned soup, fast food, and pre-packaged junk.

I have so far put a ton of information on each of the different regions in the U.S., but they still need work, especially the Midwest and Hawaii.  It's not summer anymore, so I actually have school work to do :(
